Barker Reservoir Flood

November 2002

The Barker Reservoir flood began in early November after a week of rain. The reservoir is a damn built by the CCC to control the Buffalo Bayou which flows from Katy to downtown Houston. It generally follows I-10 (on the south side). The reservoir area is a park and has soccer, baseball, shooting range, and model airplane facilities. All under water. After no rain for a couple days the water began to recede until it began raining again for another week. The water rose to the levels you see in the pictures. The park is about five miles long and a couple miles wide. All under 3 to 20 feet of water. As of December 11, the reservoir had not drained completely.
